In an interview with the International Financial Law Review (IFLR), Howard Mann reflects on a career at the forefront of international sustainable development law.
Mann has been IISD's Senior International Law Advisor since 1998. From 2003-2009, he initiated and managed IISD's Investment and Sustainable Development program.In this interview, Mann discusses a new Model Mining Development Agreement (MMDA), which was presented in draft form at the 2010 International Bar Association's annual conference in Vancouver, B.C. The MMDA was conceived to provide a basis for the negotiation of mining contracts between host governments and mining companies that expressly promotes sustainable social, economic and environmental development through more equitable and transparent mining agreements.
