Capacity-Building Workshop on Responsible Investments in Agriculture and Food Systems for Parliamentarians of the Gabonese Republic
On March 3 and 4, 2022, the Senate and the National Assembly of the Gabonese Republic—in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD)—are organizing a capacity-building workshop on responsible investments in agriculture and food systems for parliamentarians of the Gabonese Republic.
The training program for this workshop is the result of a needs assessment in which members of the Gabonese Parliamentary Alliance for Food and Nutrition Security participated.
The workshop will focus on assessing the adequacy of the national legislative framework for responsible investment in agriculture and food systems, advocating for reforms to existing laws and the adoption of new laws, and effective parliamentary oversight to ensure the implementation of laws and regulations. Parliamentarians identified two themes for discussion: i) stimulating investment by and for youth through specific measures to encourage vocations in agriculture and ii) protecting the environment and natural resources and their link to agricultural investment.
This event follows a request from parliamentarians for capacity building following the launch of the Practical Guide for Parliamentarians and Parliamentary Advisors on Responsible Investment in Agriculture and Food Systems, developed by FAO and IISD.
